Who We Are

COPPETEC (Foundation of Coordination of Projects, Research and Technological Studies) registered in the National Registry of Legal Entities under number 72.060.999/0001-75, is a non-profit institution of private law, aimed at supporting projects of technological development, research,  teaching and extension of COPPE and other units of  UFRJ. Its public is formed of governmental, private and multilateral entities and private companies, both Brazilian and foreign.

The Foundation was created on March12, 1993, originated from a Coppe department , originally called COPPETEC, established in 1970. Since then, its activities have reached more than 37 years of services delivered  to the technological, scientific and entrepreneurial community.

Since the first project – signed with FURNAS Centrais Elétricas in 1970 - around 10.000 projects have been successfully carried out in different technological areas of relevance to society. Currently, COPPETEC manages more than 600 projects simultaneously, and its structure is in a modernization and improvement process, with the implementation of systems and more efficient procedures, and training of its personnel.

In addition to the projects management services delivered, from the very beginning to the end,  COPPETEC Foundation has played a role in patent protection, brands and other intellectual property rights system, such as computer programs.

The actions developed by the COPPETEC Foundation stand out for their professionalism,  , diversity of services and promptness in the execution of projects carried out  by more than three hundred faculty members and researchers.

Obeying legal requirements, the Coppetec Foundation is regularly audited by the Curatorship of the Foundations of the State Public Prosecutor's Office and other public inspection bodies. This constant surveillance forces the institution to be permanently in line with its fiscal, legal and institutional obligations. As a foundation supporting a federal university, it is duly accredited by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) and the Ministry of Education (MEC).
